Find out how well a candidate speaks before anyone interviews them. 4 recorded answers in about 7 minutes, scored by AI on five dimensions, with a CEFR level back within minutes. In 13 languages, from $0.60 a test.
A speaking test for hiring measures how well a candidate communicates out loud in a language: whether they are understood, whether they keep going without long pauses, and whether they have the grammar and vocabulary to say what they mean. Evalingo's runs online from a link. The candidate hears each question, gets a few seconds to think, and records an answer in the browser, and AI scores the recording against the CEFR scale from A1 to C2.
An interview is the obvious way to judge speaking, and a weak one: a friendly, rehearsed conversation is the easiest speech a candidate will ever produce, and two interviewers come away with two impressions. A structured test gives everyone the same questions, timings and rubric, so a B2 means the same for every candidate, and nobody on your team has to speak the language to use it.
4 questions in 3 sections, about 7 minutes including a microphone check. Questions are drawn at random from a library inside a fixed structure, so candidates do not all see the same questions but always sit the same shape of test.
Two everyday questions, one longer topic, then a short passage read aloud, which isolates pronunciation from the content of an answer. Each question is read aloud in the language being tested, and the pale stretch before each answer is think time.
Total timed: 5 minutes. Each dimension is a fifth of the result and comes back as its own score, so you can see whether a B1 is a fluent speaker with a narrow vocabulary or a careful one with a wide one.
Roles that commonly need it
Any job where someone talks to customers, patients or colleagues in a language that is not their first needs a speaking level, and it is the level a CV is least reliable about.
Voice support is the clearest case: an agent who reads and writes well can still freeze when a caller goes off script, and finding that out on the floor costs a training cohort. At about 7 minutes, this is the check that fits at the very top of the funnel, before anyone has spent time on an interview.
A CEFR level from A1 to C2, a score on each of the five dimensions, and written notes on what went well and what held the candidate back, usually within minutes of the last answer.
Every recording stays on the result page, so you can listen to the answers behind a level you want to check. An answer that was not a real attempt, such as silence or a reply in another language, gets "Not assessable" and the reason instead of a level.
How the scoring worksSpeaking · English
Held the thread of an argument across a long answer and recovered naturally after losing a word. Vocabulary was appropriate to a professional register throughout.
Hesitation before complex clauses slowed the pace, and stress fell on the wrong syllable in a few longer words without obscuring the meaning.
