Candidate experience

The assessment speaks the candidate’s language

Buttons, timers, instructions and the consent screen now appear in the candidate’s own language, chosen from their browser, while the questions stay in the language being tested.

A candidate sitting an English assessment may read very little English. That is the whole reason they are being assessed. Until now, the interface around the questions was in English too, so a weaker candidate could lose time working out what the buttons meant, and that showed up in their score as if it were a language problem.

The interface now follows the reader. It picks up the language of the candidate’s browser, and a switcher on the welcome screen lists every language in its own script, so someone looking for العربية or 日本語 can find it whatever the page around it says. The choice is made before the clock starts.

The questions themselves do not change. A Spanish speaker taking an English test still answers English questions; they just understand how to take the test.
